Did you know that Double Dose Muay Thai Gym offers a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program? The gym wanted to add another program for their students to be able to learn a different fighting style and learn the culture behind Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. BJJ classes are offered to all students attending Muay Thai classes and any new students who may only be interested in BJJ. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It is a combination of self defense, combat and martial arts. It consists of two people trying to get one another to the ground and do certain techniques to put their opponent into submission. The sport promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger person by using leverage and proper technique. BJJ has a different uniform then Muay Thai. In Muay Thai students wear the gyms shirt, Muay Thai shorts, arm band, hand wraps and gloves. BJJ is different, students wear something called a gi and a belt no arm band or hand wraps. People say that you can benefit from doing BJJ. BJJ can help you stay in shape and gain skills that will help you in any self defense situations. You will also be able to get a better understanding of what your body and anyone else’s body is capable of doing. You do not know what you are capable of doing until you actually try and you are put in a situation where you need to. Why not be prepared? You will gain patience when learning BJJ, instructors want to make sure you understand the techniques before attempting on classmates. Double Dose gym offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes a couple times a week. The classes are held at times where it won’t interfere with Muay Thai classes, so you can be taking both programs at the same time.
