Here are a few questions we are asked…What is Muay Thai? Where did Muay Thai come from? Who is considered the King of Muay Thai? How do you wrap your hands for Muay Thai? How do you train Muay Thai? How do you pronounce Muay Thai?
Let’s start out by answering the simplest question but the one we’re asked most often…
How do you pronounce Muay Thai?
It is pronounced Moo-ay Tie.
Is Muay Thai Kickboxing? Well, yes and no. Kickboxing rules usually do not allow the use of knees or elbows. Muay Thai is called “The Art of 8 Limbs” because it uses two of each hands, legs, knees and elbows.
Why do we refer to it as Muay Thai Kickboxing on our website? As long as Muay Thai has been here in America (since 1968) many people still do not know about it so we refer to it as Muay Thai Kickboxing for those who are not educated about what Muay Thai is. It has been a while but we occasionally get calls to our gym from people wanting to order Thai food. So by putting the more familiar word kickboxing on our page we get less of those calls and more people who want to learn to protect themselves, get in shape, feel great or be the next champion.
